Following to last week's news that Nibana had made it to the final of the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards 2019 (ARTA), we can now proudly announce that they have indeed won the competition and have been named the best in the South West category.
The award ceremony took place on Sunday, October the 13th, at the Park Plaza Hotel, in Westminster. Many British celebrities, politicians, business leaders, VIPs and sports personalities attended the event, which was hosted by BBC news presenter Samantha Simmonds and comedian/magician Paul Simmons.
Also dubbed "The Oscars of the British Curry Restaurant and Takeaway Industry", the awards had received over 2400 applications from across the UK, with decisions being made through the help of a survey of over 350,000 customers by ARTA official partners ChefOnline, a digital application that allows you to order food and book tables on the go.
The British Curry industry is worth £5 billion annually, which accounts for a fifth of the restaurants in the UK dating back to the 1800’s. Incredibly, there are now more Indian restaurants in Greater London than in Delhi and Mumbai combined.
"We are truly honoured to have been named the best restaurant in all of South West UK. We also thank all our customers, without whom this is not possible. This award could have gone to any city in the South West, but to bring it to Plymouth is truly special." said Shelim Hussain, Nibana's owner.
Located in on Morshead Rd in Crownhill, the family-run restaurant and takeaway is probably the best-loved curry house in Plymouth, boasting an extensive menu, with lots of authentic Indian dishes. It's normally fully booked, mostly by regular customers which proves their fantastic reputation.
